"Never been treated so well!"

About: Airedale General Hospital

Anything else?

I ended up at A&E on the 28th December. I had an awful cough and as an asthmatic, I'm always very cautious of how things can get out of control quickly. I have had pneumonia twice before so I've always got to watch out incase things turn nasty. I was welcomed to the hospital by a lovely receptionist who was very respondent to the fact I was having trouble breathing. I was told to wait to see triage, which was only a 15 minute wait, where I was asked basic questions for my visit. I then had to wait a little longer to see a nurse who took my blood to check for further infection. After that, the wait was a little longer as results had to be pulled. I was then greeted by an absolutely lovely young lady who examined me and decided it was best to get a chest xray to be sure nothing further was going on. I waited for the results in my cubicle and had blood pressure etc taken. They came back with steroids and antibiotics for me and gave me clear instructions. I explained how I felt silly coming into A&E with purely, breathing problems, when people in the cubicles next to me were bleeding or having a heart attack. They were so reassuring and said that no ones problems are to be taken lightly and said I was just as important as any other patient and should not feel silly in the slightest. They were very caring and didnt only talk to me, but my friend who had brought me to the hopsital was informed too. I had never had such fantastic care before. Usually when I visit my GP, problems are brushed off as if I am being a hypochondriac, resulting in my leaving my practice feeling silly. This was not the case at Airedale and I believe the staff were all very concerned and eager to help each and every patient. Thank you to all the staff and especially my doctor - My name is Lucy Johansson.
