"Delayed appointment yet again"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

Anything else?

I was referred to orthopedic some months ago following severe pain in my neck. This referral initially went straight to physio..of course I attended but after a few sessions it became obvious it was worsening. I was then referred to see consultant ..the appointment came fairly quick..but no consultant a specialist physio..who wrote alot asked alot of questions and reluctantly referred me for an mri despite it being obvious I was in significant pain when she carried out a very mimimal examination. Mri very quick..however following up appointment weeks later. .managed a cancellation but after waiting almist 2 hours post appointment time..no consultant. Specialist nurse again..hadn't looked at results in until I got there. .at one point she said and I quote. .i don't think its as bad as it looks uoi probably moved'...very tearful I explained I was still on significant pain and it was affecting the quality of my life as I could no longer do simple tasks such as shopping nor could I do things with my children. She agreed to 'fast track' me for more targeted acupuncture I agreed though reluctant as had already been through this. She agreed I needed to see consultant and appointment made for 2 months. Further deterioration when I fell down some stairs .called to ask for earlier appointment and requested information be passed on. Appointment brought forward 2 weeks..then a letter to say they cancelled this and made for a further 2 weeks. Still no physio and gp still not received mri results now post 2 months. Even further deterioration since boxing day. .severe debilitating pain. .Visit to gp only to ve told tgey can only advise on pain relief. .nothing working and as a single parent cannot rake anything which zombifies me. Called secretary who may as well have said I was making it up . Offered cancellation today but not with consultant again. could not get a luft and could not drive due to pain and restricted movement. Called back to be told by secretary I had changed my mind. .corrected her that wasn't the case..then told appointment with consultant on 6th would be cancelled again as he was on holida. no idea when I am going to be seen. .called by on call specialist at .6.30 who when I asked what I do in relation to paon relief could not answer. .when I quoted its a case of putting up with it..she replied pretty much yes. Clearly no idea how much pain I am in and how concerned I am that my symptoms seem to be deteriorating. .I now have numbness and weaknes in my leg and chronic pain up the back of head from my neck. I reminded her abkut the 'fast track' acupuncture and she said oh dear! !! I am going to be making a more formal complaint about my experience. .certainly does not provide me with much faith...perhaps if they suffered the pain they may understand. Totally disgusted and would in no way recommend this consultant to anyone. Even his secretary was rude. .should be worth remembering. .we don't choose to have these symptoms!
