I unfortunately sustained a severe fracture of the left ankle on 18/11/13. From the instant I arrived in A and E, I was treated by staff who were both compassionate and proficient. I was immediately seen by the Triage nurse, sent for an X-ray, and in no time at all I was having my ankle manipulated back into place. The Consultant and his team then took over my care and I immediately knew that I was in the hands of an expert, who was going to keep me informed every step of the way. I was admitted to ward 3 B which was to be my home for the next 2 weeks whilst I had my foot both externally and then later internally fixated. During this time I was non weight bearing so I was very dependent on the ward staff and was initially quite anxious as I too have heard the horror stories about our hospitals today. However, I speak as I find and the staff on the ward were both hard working, kind, and capable. I must give a special thank you to six particular members of staff. I must also give a special mention to the staff in the Recovery unit who were not even fazed when my BP went down to 54/23 post op! When you are in hospital for such a lengthy stay, it is the small kindnesses that you remember especially on the days when the pain seems particularly acute, and the recovery process abominably slow. I must say that the staff at GRH are professional and yet kind and caring. We'll done to you all.
"Excellent care from the whole team."
