"doctor wasting hospital resources"

About: Charing Cross Hospital

Anything else?

I was given a prescription by a doctor at the walk-in surgery which was not available anywhere. Having gone to nearly 50 different pharmaciess with the prescription, they all told me that the prescribed item was not available anywhere - and hadn't been for some time. Dozens of pharmacists wrote down alternatives for me to request. I went back to change the prescription. The reception were extremely helpful - but when it was my turn to see the female doctor, she refused to issue a replacement prescription and insisted that I queue up in the system for another doctor's opinion - despite it being uneccessary and a waste of hospital resources. This was a very minor problem and only needed a replacement prescription - so it seemed an odd thing to do when there were plenty of other patients who needed to see a second doctor. I don't know if her time-wasting routine was motivated by spite or indifference. For some reason, she spent more than 20 minutes reading my notes - despite the fact that there would only have been a 1-line entry. She critisised the pharmacist's advice but gave no useful information herself. I was processed through the system - despite it being pointless. The receptionists were really helpful - shame the doctors couldn't have made more of an effort to be professional.
