"Poor Care "

About: The Great Western Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My mother a very terminally ill patient. The care from both Auxillary and Nurses is substandard. My mother is too week to lift her arms to feed herself or to drink. They ask if she wants a drink and fill the glass and leave it on the side out of reach no straw and of no other of assistance.

The food is unsuitable she has very poor appetite and was asked if she want a roast dinner or a beef stew. No care or thought of her needs.

The nurses leave alarms running on the IV's. The auxillarys staff just want to get their job over and done as quick as possible.

My mother was on morphine and was dopey the nurse did not ask and wait for a answer if she was in pain and want more morphine.

She just said you want morphine and gave it. This kept my mother drowsy and unable to communicate

The whole care is totally substandard. How do I know I was a Service Medic for 20 years working on many wards in different hospitals

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your mother's experiences. On behalf of the Trust, please accept my apologies that her care wasn't delivered to the high standards we expect.

We would like to be able to look into this, but need more details to establish the ward and potential staff who were caring for your mother.

I'd be grateful if you would either reply with further information about which ward your mother stayed on and when, or alternatively if you could contact our customer services team, who can take down all the relevant details.

Their direct telephone number is 01793 604031, or by email to pals.team@gwh.nhs.uk

Many thanks.
