About: Colchester General Hospital

Anything else?

Colchester General and Essex County seem to have become targets for attack in the media, but my own experience has been outstanding. I was diagnosed with cancer in September 2012, after a comprehensive sequence of tests in about 6 weeks. I had surgery (colectomy) about a fortnight later. The inpatient care was superb. I was back on my feet in no time - I walked a mile on the 8th day. Three months later I started a six-month course of chemo: that was pretty grim, but the hospital support was excellent. Since then I've had follow-up scans, tests, checks etc, all very timely and professional, the latest being last week. If I had to go through it all again and was given a choice of hospitals, I'd opt for Colchester without hesitation. A huge thanks to all the amazing people there.

Many thanks for your comments and taking the time to submit them. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive. We have a quarterly At Our Best Awards scheme which recognises staff achievements and thanks them for what they do. It has a team category, an individual and a volunteer category.
