Another nose bleed, this time staunched, but with associated giddiness and loss of use of legs promoted a resolution to make GP appointment on Monday, but a run through the Q & A on NHS Direct website threw up a " take yourself to A & E within an hour!" This time, Sunday morning, 10.30, the queue was longer and it took over nearly two hours to get processed. On arrival with the assessment nurse had difficulty because the loss of use of limbs was intermittent and not diagnosable. Fortunately there was an appointment available with the out of hours GP to whom I was trundled. A half hour wait was more than acceptable and her assessment was thorough and precise. An irregular heart beat was observed and I was transferred into the care of Holly Clinic. Naturally there was a some considerable delay awaiting the attention of a clinician, but they were all cheerful reassurance and efficiency, with a delightful sense of humour, whilst taking tests. The two clinicians were charming and as elegant as their diagnosis. They key to which was the difference between standing and sitting blood pressure. Discharged at about 7 .30 with a suggestion that BP tablet dosage is reviewed by GP well pleased with the quality of patient care which permeated the whole experience, one of the best practitioners was the trolley man.
