"time in hospital"

About: Leighton Hospital

Anything else?

I was taken ill with breathing problems on the 16/12/13 and can only praise the treatment and care that I was given throughout my illness. From the paramedics who first attended, the staff in A//e who gave initial treatment I had a long wait on a trolley for a bed but was kept informed of the reason and staff ensured that I was as comfortable as possible. When taken up to ward 3 I was quickly made comfortable by several members of staff all who where involved introduced themselves and made sure I knew where things where. Every body the consultant, nurses, care staff and the cleaners all showed professional, caring, and friendly attitudes throughout my stay until the 19/12/23. I would however criticize the the way the pharmacy. deals with medicine that is required for a patient to take home. I was informed at 9am that I had recovered enough to return home. I then remained blocking a bed until after 3pm waiting for 2 boxes of tablet to be sent up, while I understand that some time would elapse before they received the order with the computer sending the message this would be only a short time, During the time I was waiting for the tablets someone may have been waiting on an uncomfortable trolley becoming another breech of your own targets.

Thank you very much for your positive comments regarding your care and treatment whilst you were a patient in the A&E department. The team take pride in ensuring patients are kept well informed as they recognise this helps to reduce the stress especially in an emergency admission and I am delighted you felt this took place. I am, however, sorry that you had to wait for a bed. Sue Talbot-Crosby, Matron, Emergency Care, I am sorry you had to wait 6 hours for your medicine. Pharmacy does have a target turnaround time of 1 and a half hours for all discharge prescriptions from a box of tablets to 20 plus items. I apologise for your wait in this instance. If you would like us to investigate this further please let the customer dare team know on 01270 612410. Karen Thomas, Director of Pharmacy
