"Insensitive staff attitudes as my world was falling apart"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I went in for my 12 week scan suspecting a twin pregnancy. There were twins but no heartbeats. The sonographer was very blasé about it and told me to book a ERPC that afternoon. I was devastated. Her attitude really upset me - obviously for her it was an everyday occurrence but my world was falling apart. Since this happened nearly 3 years ago, I hope staff now will have had better training to deal with painful news more sensitively.

At the EPAU the nurse told me I already had enough children. The anaesthetist also upset me. I'm sure he meant well but he seemed extremely flippant and jokey and I became extremely stressed going into theatre. I was already in a distressed state and I felt that he was making fun. It just felt really inappropriate.

Later on the ward I was left haemorrhaging for many hours and was left alone in the bathroom despite already having fainted twice from loss of blood. Due to being left so long I needed a transfusion of 4 pints of blood which in my opinion would not have been necessary if I had been monitored properly and dealt with more quickly. To be fair, the ward staff were very nice, just too busy.
