"Went in for total knee replacement, ended up in..."
About: Dewsbury & District Hospital Dewsbury & District Hospital Dewsbury WF13 4HS
I had a total knee replacement done on the 28th Nov 2013, at Dewsbury Hospital, the operation went well, but unfortunately due to my medical history, things became complicated and I ended up at Pinderfields ICU, later transferred to St James Renal unit with kidney failure! The reason being that, after the op I was unable to eat or drink anything, and my meds were re started, including my Diabetes medication! Which any one knows should only be taken with a meal! My family questioned the surgeon who performed the surgery as to why I was sooo sick, the surgeons reponse was; the surgery that he performed went well, so whatever happened after that was nothing to do with him! So surgeons do not care about the whole person, they are only interested in the surgery that they did! Is this right? Shouldn't all staff be concerned about the whole person and check all of their medical needs? Don't get me wrong, the nursing staff at Dewsbury were brilliant, as were the staff at Pinders & Jimmy's. the nursing staff do their bit and manage to get things right, (working for a pittance), Now the surgeons and consultants should take a leaf out of their books and do the same, treat the whole person, Or take responsibility for their mistakes and not to pass the buck!
