My wife fell on her right shoulder at a City Council Gym, after accidentally tripping over a rowing machine around noon on Friday the 13th. After a 3 hour waiting time at Heartlands A and E, she was rapidly assessed. XRays were taken and reassessment took place. Fortunately no fractures were detected, but as my wife was unable to raise her arm without pain, she was given painkillers and called back on Monday, Tuesday and again on Wednesday 18 Dec. as an Outpatient for follow-up assessments. All doctors were superb in their approach, courtesy and performance. Because my wife was suffering considerable pain, I asked for painkillers to be given to her on arrival at A and E on Friday 13 Dec. These were not administered until 4 hours later, perhaps because her injury was believed to be minor, or perhaps owing to staff being extremely busy with patients. However I have no other criticism of the care given to my wife. On Wednesday 18 Dec. she was seen by a senior doctor, given a steroid injection in the shoulder to ease her pain and sent home. She was also told she is "absolutely fit to travel to India in a week", which we have planned to do for months before this event. This was mentioned by the very capable doctor who saw her on 18 December. All care given to her was in A and E and Outpatients and at no time was she placed on a hospital bed.
