"Thank you for listening to the carer"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a carer),

Back in October this year my friend who l care for was not feeling too well so we phoned the doctor and were told to dial 999. The person on the line was very good in telling me what to do and within 2 mins a response person was with us. He was very good as he not only was talking to my friend who was not well but also to me as the carer. He was listening to what l had to say and, as l have cared for my friend for the last 13 years, l know her well.

Then a ambulance came. It turned out that she was having a heart attack but she also had a bad chest infection. In the 13 years I have cared for my friend this was the very first time that the response have listened to me as the full time carer. They were also telling us both what they were doing. So l was very happy for once with them as in the past they haven't listened to me.

Only one thing l was not happy about was the lady on the phone was telling me what to do. There was no need as l am a first aider and yes have done the course. l told the lady on the phone but she took no notice of me so that bit could have been better but well done.

A very big thank you for listening to the carer for once. Those who care know the person they care for best as we see them every day.
