We wanted to say thank you so much to all of the staff who helped care for our son. He suffered a very nasty fracture during a PE lesson at school on Friday 13th. The staff in A&E had lots of people to care for, but always made time to answer our questions and make sure that our son had pain relief until it was time for him to go for surgery. He was treated gently, and with care and respect. The theatre staff explained everything to us before the operation, and took particular care to include our son in discussions. They made sure that he wasn't anxious about the procedure. There was some inevitable waiting, but we can't complain about that. It wasn't too long. Aftercare was very good, and our son was pleased to be in the adolescent area of the children's ward. Again, staff were very busy with lots of patients to care for, but made time for us if we had questions. We were very surprised the next day when we were recognised by the surgeon in one of the endless corridors, and he stopped and took the time to explain how the operation had gone. The same thing happened later with the orthopedic consultant, who told us that the x-rays looked good. All in all, a positive experience of a horrible situation. We know how bad it could have been, as we had a traumatic experience at another local hospital some years ago (same arm, less serious fracture). Many thanks to all the staff involved.
