My mother-in-law was moved from Royal Berks to Jasmine Ward in September 2013 for medication review. She was in a dreadful state, screaming, aggressive and generally confused. Family couldn't go to see her. After 3 months there, she has now been transferred to a nursing home much better, calmer, easy to talk to and back to being the pleasant lady she was. Staff are mixed. Some are very caring and some just doing their job. Some staff did have difficulty giving her medication, but that was because they were just putting about 7 tablets on a spoon and placing it in front of her and asking her to take them. Anyone in their right mind isn't going to just do that! Did have to keep asking about her progress though as no voluntary feedback from doctors and nurses. Experience of social workers - useless. Only wanted to help if to their advantage. Wanted to discharge mother-in-law but nowhere for her to go. Someone went behind our backs and contacted a place who came and did an assessment without our knowledge. No-one is owning up to it though. Disgraceful. Overall, have nothing but admiration for all the staff who work with these sort of patients as it is not easy. Our issues are with Royal Berks and their attitude and dealings with dementia patients.

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased that staff provided your mother with good care so that her condition could be stabilised. Your comments relating to your mother's condition following discharge are particularly encouraging. I am sorry to hear that her care elsewhere was not of the same standard. We have passed on your comments to senior executives and our staff in order to maintain these high standards within our services.
