"Beware of ward 29!"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

I do not write complaints, but from what I seen, I have to warn people. The place is filth, dirty and the night staff, they are ignorant and rude! Patient care is not a priority. The nurse decided to re-write the information on the form that came from the Royal because it was not the form they use, why could this not be done after my husband was settled and given pain medication? The information was already there, but she had to go through it all over again, at the end of the bed asking the same questions, writing the information down while my husband is in pain, he kept screaming for pain relief and she just ignored him, with no intention of taking care of him until she had filled in the paperwork. While taking the information she kept asking what the “surname” of the emergence contact was and my mother-in-law (who by the way is 78 years old) kept giving the nurse her “last name”, the nurse got yelled –“surname!” (this is someone who is taking care of our loved ones and she doesn’t know what surname mean?) My mother-in-law gave her full name because she wasn’t sure what she was asking for. Before I could jump in and explain that surname is ones last name my husband really began to scream and use foul language in pain. She finally decided to give him a shot for pain she said one was to stop him from being sick and it stings but she doesn’t know which one it is. Again, you don’t know which one it is? Do you even have the right medication? Then the doctor comes in and is poking around his private bits without putting gloves on! This was shocking! I am still appalled over this; doctors not wearing gloves! My husband hadn’t eaten since that morning (this is 20:30) he asked if he can get something to eat. The response “yeah, we will find you a sandwich, I’m busy right now” (they never did) they told him to drink plenty of water, when he asked for it they told him “yeah, we will get you some, I’m busy right now”, when they got tired of him asking for food and water they told him there are vending machines on the floor above you will have to go get it, good thing he had some change on him or he would have been denied the basics of life – food and water. He kept asking where he could get a blank, the response, “yeah I will get you one, , I’m busy right now”. He never did get one. He kept asking where “he” could dispose of his bowl of vomit that has been sitting by his bed for 3 hours, they said they would take care of it. Hear the nurses taking about how they are tired of the constant moaning and complaining. You wonder why people are moaning... The questionnaire asks about “Dignity and Respect” there is none! We are the consumer, we pay for this, the staff need some serious training on how to treat a patient with dignity and respect, how important cleanliness and aseptic procedures. I could keep going with all the issues with this hospital but bottom line is do not get ill!
