"A HR perspective on Highbury Hospital"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Posted on behalf of a member of staff from the HR team who attended the Listening event at Highbury Hospital:

I believe we could do more to get staffing right at the point of recruitment. Often, we replace staff like for like when someone leaves, but this may not be the right thing for the ward at the time. We need to make sure we're advertising for the right people, and advertising the right roles to match the needs of the ward environment.

Along with the Head of Involvement (Paul Sanguinazzi), I am responsible for the Trusts two Involvement Centres, and our Volunteering and Befriending Service. I help to report all of the feedback we receive as a Trust to the Board.

This is a really interesting comment, particularly whether we could take more time to assess the needs of our services rather than always recruiting like-for-like. I'm sure this is done in some places, but probably not as often as it could/should be.

All comments gathered at the Listening Event are being shared with the senior management team who oversee Highbury services, and I'm sure they or a responsible manager will respond in more detail shortly. It might also be interesting to have a senior HR response also.
