"Rowan 1: a staff perspective"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I would really like to see staff spending more time with patients, and I would like to see more communication between the staff on the wards and management (and vice versa).

The best things about Rowan 1 are the caring and friendly staff, the regular reviews and the focus on recovery.

Hello and thank you for your comments.

This is the first comment we have seen re: Rowan 1 and it is very exciting to be able to feedback in this manner (more comments please!).

I am glad to hear that the opinion of us as staff is friendly and caring. We would like to think that we approach care in an empathic manner, trying to imagine how it would feel to be on the ward.

We base much of our work upon the principles of communciation, so it is also very pleasing to hear that the opinion of the team is that we are friendly and approachable. We are of the opinion that all people should be treated with suitable levels of respect, honesty, dignity and sincerity.

The Recovery approach underpins all we do on the ward. I believe the ward approach is very Recovery focussed, but am looking forward to introuding all to a new Team Recovery Implementaion Plan in the New Year, which will include approaches from Medics, Nursing staff, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Peers Support Services, Pastoral Care and most importantly- patients and carers.

I believe that involving all in care and the direction of care in the future will give all memebrs of the team ownership and will improve any communication barriers through a shared understanding of what we are trying to achieve.
