"Food for Elderly Patients"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

(as a relative),

The food is good in Hull Royal Infimary ward 8. However the portions of plated 'dinners' are too large for many old ladies like my 93 yr old mother used to 1 cooked meal a day. I watched for 8 days and saw the waste. Tempting smaller portions could be offered - and Im sure money would be saved. I know portion control is standardised but there is plenty of food on offer with 2 cooked meals a day.

Thank you for adding you comment to the Patient Opinion website. It is always a pleasure to receive such positive feedback and we will ensure that the staff concerned are made aware of these. Nutrition for the elderly is given careful consideration as some elderly patients may be malnurished on admission or require building up before discharge following a lengthy illness. There are several choices available including sandwiches or yogurts for those who would prefer a lighter option. We are pleased that your mother did enjoy the food that she was given.
