"My dad's dementia story"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Mental Health Services for Older People – Inpatient

(as a relative),

After a collapse at home dad was finally admitted to Derby Hospital. He was discharged, safely in my opinion, to a nursing home. Despite settling quite well there his symptoms of aggravation upon interventions escalated and he became violent and unmanageable.

He had to then be admitted to a specialist mental health ward at Chesterfield Hospital. Dad has now been on Linacre ward for 5 months.

His medications have been changed, his behaviour care plans on interventions mean he is less likely to hurt someone or himself and he appears a lot more settled now.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave such helpful comments and a positive story about coping with dementia and challenging behaviour.

I'm pleased to hear that your father is responding well to treatment which must reduce your worries greatly.

We always try to get the best outcome for people with dementia and this can be extremely difficult for some people.
