"Poor treatment from staff at 5Brs"

About: North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I have over the past 5-6 years had the misfortune of being a patient on several 5 boroughs wards, repeatedly I have seen or been exposed to many accounts of intimidation and what seemed like assaults on myself and the same on other vulnerable patients by nursing assistants, these nursing assistants spoil the great work of other caring staff, because in my view they know they will get away with treating patients worse than prison officers treat criminals also they continue with this in my view disgraceful treatment. I would ask others to speak up if you feel you have been mistreated to help save other patients going through the same as I did when I was at my most vulnerable.

Thank you for taking the time to make this posting.

I would be very grateful if you would please let me have further details as soon as possible in order that we can fully investigate the issues you raise.

Thank you for recognising the “great work of other caring staff”. Please be assured that there is no place in our Trust for any staff member who assaults or intimidates service users. I fully agree with you that people enter our service when they are at their most vulnerable and deserve care delivered compassionately.

You can contact me directly on 01925 664064 or by email on dave.thompson@5bp.nhs.uk or my colleague Dennis Dewar on 6644590 or by email on dennis.dewar@5bp.nhs.uk

I can assure you that any future care and treatment you receive in our Trust will not be negatively affected by you raising these concerns.

Thanks again for taking the time to bring these matters to our attention and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you both for your response to my posting on this Patient Opinion site but there is something else that you need to know and maybe look into.

I live in assisted living accommodation in Knowsley and where I live there are 5 of us that if we had to go into hospital we all would refuse to be admitted into Coniston ward. We would even refrain from telling our C.P.N how bad our mental health is if we thought by doing so we would end up in Coniston ward, even if we were becoming a danger to ourselves. I have a concern about the treatment of patients on Coniston ward by a small number of staff. As far as the qualified staff, there has never been a issue to my knowledge.

If you want to discuss this with me you only have to contact me by phone as even though I have a user name am sure you can find out who I am with great ease and I will be happy for you to call me.

Update posted by serviceuser43 (the patient)

I have posted a new opinion about a recent stay on tailor ward and because of the positive way I was treated while I was a patient on the ward I felt that I had to post compliments to all the staff regarding my experience with them, because it is so easy for people to post complaints if they the have a negative experience but for some reason they don't give compliments when they are deserved ( and I can be guilty of this as anyone else ) so I hope my posting dose a little to balance out and make others awear that there can be good experiences as well as bad experiences on mental health wards and as people should be informed of the bad experiences equally they should be informed of the good experiences or outcomes to there stay
