"Cataract Operation"

About: Spire Cheshire Hospital

Anything else?

First operation horrendous I was advised I would only feel the first injection into my eye - felt about three, eye bled profusely, no-one asked if my eye was numb. I was also told someone would hold my hand in case I needed to move or cough didn't happen. During procedure Surgeon took the eye clamp suggested she would cancel the List since there a a problem with instrumentation, I think. I had to remind everyone I was still there and would like to know what was about to happen. It appears some of my eye tissues have been damaged and at present have to use eye drops to obviate the redness. Second operation fantastic perhaps because I insisted someone held my hand. This time I was asked if I could feel iodine drops I said no and was advised my eye was numb. Greatest criticism there is no after care, NHS patients are given a chart advising them when to take drops and in which order they should be applied. They are told how to bathe eyes before applying medication. When I asked for an appointment when my first eye was sore it took me four days before I found anyone prepared to arrange this. When I thought I was about to runout of one of the drops I called at The Spire and received no help other than being told to of go to my GP. Second operation entirely different Nurse who look after me was caring and gave me as much information verbally as I needed.
