"The nurses are particularly helpful ..."

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The nurses are particularly helpful and knowledgable, and are keen to make out-patients feel more comfortable about their procedure.

What could be improved

Arriving at the main entrance as an out-patient at 8:15am on Friday, I was met with the sight of a "cleaner" using a vacuum cleaner in the main reception area. This man was filthy! His clothes were very badly stained, his hair was matted & greasy and he looked and smelt liked he hadn't washed for weeks. He looked like a tramp. (in fact I have seen better dressed tramps). Why employ someone to clean a hospital who obviously cannot keep himself clean? This first impression of Macclesfield Hospital is not what is needed in this time of ever increasing stories of "dirty hospitals"

Thank you for feeding back your kind comments about our nursing staff in outpatients. The nurses at East Cheshire NHS Trust recognise the importance of making patients’ visits to hospital as comfortable as possible.

We are very disappointed about your experience upon arriving at hospital. The member of staff in question will be reminded to put on his uniform when cleaning inside the hospital building. We feel that on this occasion he didn’t change from his outdoor clothes into his uniform.
