In February/March time in 2013, After 3 weeks of excruciating sciatic nerve pain, I walked or crawled into the RVI ward 17 after my doctor at home managing to get me in to see someone about the pain as no painkillers were touching it. I was seen by a registrar and taken for an MRI. On arriving back to the ward I waited around 20 minutes before a doctor came to see me and explained everything that showed in my MRI. He explained he had theatre space on the Coming Monday (it was Wednesday) as he didn't think back injections would work for long. He then took another look at me and said he couldn't leave me in the pain I was in, made some phone calls, came back and told me I was going into theatre in 1 hour and to phone whoever I needed to arrange life at home. I had decompression surgery to remove a disc that was causing me to loose bladder control and it was the best thing I've ever agreed to. This doctor is an amazing man with amazing talents. I went home the next day a different girl because of him and for that I'm truly grateful. Our NHS gets slated so much but without these people who work tirelessly day after day I wouldn't be walking, running and enjoying my life with my two children. Thankyou to the RVI and the staff whom work there on making my life a better place to be. ... Jane Howard.
