Well, I was admitted to Vicary ward for the purpose of a triple bypass. My first impressions of the place were not great, I must admit, The whole appearance of the place was one of tired, drab, and way past its sell by date. Couple this to the fact that I was pretty worried about the forthcoming operation, so as you possibly can imagine, I wasn't feeling my best. However, the staff very quickly introduced themselves to me one by one. I was offered a cup of tea, which I accepted.This was delivered to me along with a small packet of biscuits.Everybody from the orderleys up to thesurgeon came to see me, and explained fully what my stay would entail. Well, this care and treatment that I was afforded did not waver or diminish throughout the whole of my stay. To be 100% fair, I had only 2 criticisms, and these concerned the food. Firstly, each day, the menu is brought round for everybody to choose what they would like to eat the next day, and sometimes something completely different from what you ordered was delivered! Secondly, the quality and quantity of the food was not great. I've tasted far better food in other hospitals, but I've also tasted far worse. These points about the food are just my opinion, and hopefully you will disagree with me. One thing we can be sure of is that nobody will ever have died of food poisoning or starvation whilst in Barts, so don't worry! I was discharged on 3rd November 2013, sore, but safe in the knowledge that I had been cared for by the absolute cream of the crop. As I stated earlier, my first impression of the hospital was quite negative due to the drab appearance, but this is just purely cosmetic. What is far more important is cleanliness, and level of medical care, both of which score 10 out of 10 in my opinion. Lastly, I hope you never need this operation, because it's a biggie, but if you do, get yourself into Barts, you won't be in better hands.
