"I was admitted by emergency ambulance ..."

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted by emergency ambulance late at night with an acute asthma attack, due to paramedic concerns on the way I was met by a full team in resus a and e, who happily saved my life, Although all of the time in a and e is a little blurry due to me being so poorly, i can't thank the staff enough as they are the reason my 2 young children still have a mummy. I was transferred to HDU and received a warm welcome from the night staff and was very grateful for their kindness after such a traumatic event. As daylight broke and my condition improved I was pleased to see how clean the unit was. My thanks to all the staff involved in my care.

What could be improved

The only slight complaint I have is that the day staff were a bit off with my partner, I understand that their has to be boundries regarding other patiens care and privacy etc, but my partner had just seen me nearly die, hooked up to machines monitors pumps and oxygen, he was frightened, so when he was tersely by a nurse that he had come at the wrong time and that he could have 5 minutes with me but then would have to go didin't really alleviate his fears, he had just had a 40 minute journey worried sickkto be told that, I feel that the staff maybe lose sight of how scary and worrying it is for the pt, I have to say however that the night staff had an altogether different attitude and were very supportive of him
