"Carers Support Service (City) Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust - Feedback"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Carer services

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

The AMH City Carer Group comments;

"I enjoyed hearing the carers experiences, it has helped me understand the difficulites that they face"

" I now feel more attuned to carers and want to share good practice with the ward"

The group also wanted to comment on the Carers Stratergy and Triangle of care;

"As a new group we are very keen to help implement the Carer Sratery on all the AMH inpatient areas. We wonder how the Triangle of Care relates to the stratergy and If the Trust were considering signing up? "

Hello AMH City Carers’ Group

Thanks for your comments and I am glad that people are listening to carers’ experiences.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare’s Carers’ Strategy was developed with the help of carers and the Triangle of Care was one of the key documents we used in developing the Strategy. As we provide a whole range of services, not just mental health services, we decided to use the Strategy rather than the Triangle of Care to bring about better involvement, information and support for all our carers.

The key areas which we are working on, and are based on the standards in the Triangle of Care, are:

1. To recognise Carers, Families and Friends

2. To communicate effectively with Carers, Families and Friends

3. To support Carers, Families and Friends to maintain their own wellbeing

4. To involve Carers, Families and Friends

5. To support our staff to be more aware of Carers’, Families’ and Friends’ needs and issues

We are working with Carers in both our Carers’, Families’ and Friends’ Community of Interest and the Trust’s Carers Strategy Group to make progress on these areas. Some of the things we are currently doing are:

• Launching an e-learning package for staff on Carers and Confidentiality

• Producing a guide for Carers, Families and Friends of people using mental health services

• Improving the information for Carers, Families and Friends on the Trust website

• Involving Carers in the development of pathways in Adult Mental Health and Older People’s Services

If you would like to get more involved in working with us to improve how we work together with carers then please contact me via paul.sanguinazzi@nottshc.nhs.uk or on 0115 993 4567.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments.
