"Elderly, sick mother discharged from ward at..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

My mother waited all day for her discharge from the ward. It was midnight by the time her meds were ready and she was given the ok to leave. This situation should not be allowed to happen.

Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices webpage. We would like to apologise that your mother endured a lengthy wait prior to her discharge home from the ward and the distress and inconvenience that this caused you and your family. We accept that it is not acceptable to discharge an elderly person at midnight and would like to investigate exactly how this happened. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity to make changes and improvements wherever possible. We are very keen to investigate the matter fully to understand what happened on the day of discharge with an attempt to prevent other patients experiencing the same delays in future. It is difficult to respond to your post in a full due of a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk The Patient Experience Team Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
