"Antibiotics 'forgotten'"

About: King George Hospital

Anything else?

My father is on the Iris ward after acquiring an infection from the hospital during a urinary catheter procedure. He is very unwell, showing all the signs of serious infection. However the staff on the ward simply forgot to administer his antibiotics yesterday, leaving him with a canula in his hand and no drugs for the entire day, feeling progressively worse as the day went on, until he was of fit mind to ask about it. There should be procedures and check lists in place to show that patients have had the treatments they need. However many people were involved in this happening need to account for this error and ensure it doesn't happen again. Very disappointing and potentially very dangerous.

I am concerned to hear that this happened. This is unacceptable and I will follow up this up with the ward. If you would like to talk to us further about this, please contact me through our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk we will investigate what happened further. Yours sincerely Flo Panel-Coates Director of Nursing
