"Sent home after ortho op. No assessment of blood..."

About: Hillingdon Hospital

Anything else?

I am shocked that the NHS would discharge my elderly mother from hospital after a full knee replacement without considering her previous risk of blood clot. She was given no post op med to reduce the risk which necessitated me having to rush her to A & E about 5 days after surgery to deal with the problem. Truly frightening experience for her and for me having to rush her to A& E at midnight. Has the Hospital changed it's procedures or are we to remain on tenterhooks each time after an orthopadic operation? Can the hospital have the courtesy to reply to this review at least?

We are very sorry to hear that your experience in our hospital was not of a standard that we expect to deliver to our patients. We would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and your mother to review what happened, to ensure a similar experience is not repeated in the future. Kind regards Sinead Fagan Assistant Director of Surgery 01895 238282
