"Worrying"

About: Dorset County Hospital

Anything else?

Recent experience of the medical ward whilst a loved one was a patient was not just disappointing but scary. The staff mean well and mostly try hard to provide care but there is not enough staff to provide safety or reassurance. Drug errors, missed medication, lack of enough personal care when needed, concerns only listened to after persistent complaining, not acting quickly enough when there are medical complications. The way the doctors rota operates seems most junior doctors don't know what is happening with patients they are covering. This does not mean the staff don't try and are generally good and well meaning but without appropriate staff levels and someone taking responsibility they are fighting a losing battle. I have even been told this by members of staff working there. It is a sad situation to see some demoralised staff trying to do a job they can't cope with and to watch someone you care for suffering. Does it meet the standards required? Who is responsible?
