"Childrens a&e"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

Anything else?

27th November childrens a&e horrible treatment by nurse in a blue uniform . My 1 year old was crying with pain curled up on the waiting room floor . Told cant be seen earlier as is not a clinical need this was just after taking her temperature. My baby was in that much pain which made me cry even so no emotion showed by a nurse in a blue uniform sat in her seat and watched me cry while i told them my babys in pain. A nurse in a white uniform very kindly came ova took me into a room. A childrens a&e unit should be nice friendly enviroment this made me scared to go back with the lack of care the nurse had. Made me feel very uncomfortable and disgusted with the service recieved. Cant believe 1 nurse made me feel so low

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on NHS Choices and bringing your experiences in the Children’s Emergency Department to our attention. We would wish to offer a sincere apology for your experience when you attended the department with your poorly child. The behaviour of the staff that you describe is not what we expect of our staff and it is clearly not acceptable. As you correctly state, the Children’s Emergency Department to be a friendly, and caring, environment in order to reduce the anxiety of children and parents who attend following injury or illness. This was clearly not your experience and it would be very helpful if you would be willing to discuss this with us in order to be able to investigate fully and discuss your feedback with the member of staff concerned. In order to do this, we would greatly appreciate it if you would contact Matron Angela McNab, Emergency Department or Mr Paul Anderson, Patient Relations Manager or a member of his team on 0191 2231382 so that we can identify when you attended and the staff that you came into contact with.
