"We feel our brother was let down by the care and attitude on the ward"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

My brother was admitted to Tameside in May this year as he had a constant headache for over 3 months. He was at A & E and then MAU then transferred to ward 41. My brother was only 50 yrs old. While in hospital he lost his sight, went deaf and over a course of 5 weeks and 4 days he did not know us and lost the ability to know how to eat drink and also he could not walk. They treated him for meningitis and also methanol poisoning which was never there, also cjd and they could not find out what was wrong. However the care and compassion were not there. Also we were not consulted regarding his treatment despite my brother not knowing what was happening to him. He had countless falls as he did not know he could not walk in the end.

He was moved to CCU for the last 3 days of his life and then we were told he may have malignant meningitis 40 minutes before he died. They were supposed to implement a red tray for food as he could not see or hear and also a commode to use. Despite the doctor saying it would be put in his notes, it never was. It also took us nine days to get a appointment to speak to the doctor on the ward as they also did a clinic as well as the ward and could not be disturbed. We feel our brother was let down by the care and attitude on the ward and will be speaking to someone to explain what happened to our brother.
