"My recent experience has been terrible, disorganised and taken too long"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as a service user),

My recent experience has been terrible, disorganised and taken too long. My doctors surgery took over a week to transfer the referral to TRAQS, then it took a further 5 days before I received an appointment, which is a further 6 weeks in the future. This is for a problem my doctor seemed very worried about.

We spoke about a leukemia test, which when I spoke to TRAQS about it, I was told to speak to my doctor. So, I called my doctor, and was told to call back on Monday morning. What happened to simple procedure.

Doctor referring patient to the hospital - why and extra obstacle of TRAQS. Nothing but hassle.

Thank you for providing feedback to TRAQS.

TRAQS was established in June 2012 at the request of GPs in the Telford and Wrekin area to ensure that all patients receive a choice of where to attend for their first out patient appointment when being referred by their GP for further care. The TRAQS leaflet fully explains how TRAQS works and what an individual patient may expect when a referral is made by their GP.

TRAQS offer a choice of hospitals and local community clinics (when appropriate) to the patient. We rely upon the referring GP to provide accurate information to ensure that the patient is seen in the correct clinic first time. We are however, reliant upon the hospital to provide appointments slots to us to allow us to offer date/times for the patient. locally the hospitals are undergoing longer than expected waits for appointments due to a higher than expected referral rate. This does affect our ability to offer local appointments and some patient do have to wait longer than either they or we would like before being seen. However,as you may have noted from our explanatory leaflet your appointment within 6 weeks is well within the 18 week limit.

I am sorry to hear of your experience and hope that the outcome of your appointment is positive.
