"Unacceptable delay in discharge"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

Anything else?

My Daughter in Law and son were in hospital with their five week old baby. I make no comment on the care they received but they were told at 11.00 am that they could go home. We were minding a distressed toddler missing his parents while they waited and waited with no information. Finally they were were given the medication the baby needed eight and a half hours later and arrived home exhausted and tearful with a fretful baby who had been very ill. I fail to understand why this ridiculous delay is happening. Even if drugs have to checked three or four times, eight and a half hours is unacceptable.

Dear MiceElf We apologise for the delay that your Daughter in Law, son and baby experienced at the hospital. Eight and a half hours does seem to be an excessive amount of time to wait just for medicine. On some occasions being discharged from hospital can take a while especially when ensuring that everything a tiny baby needs at home is correct. We hope that your Daughter in Law and son were happy with the care their baby received whilst at the hospital and that your grandchild has made a good recovery. If your Daughter in Law and son would care to contact us we can look into why it took so long to dispense the medicine after the decision was made that they could go home. We welcome feedback from patients so that we can continually improve our services. Without knowing any of the details concerning your Daughter in Law’s and son’s visit including their names, it is difficult for us to find out specifically why they waited so long. Kind regards The Communication Team Darent Valley Hospital Telephone: 01322 428255 Email: glyn.oakley@dvh.nhs.uk
