"2nd stage mammogram/Ultrasound/Biopsy"

Anything else?

As a patient who has already had breast cancer, to be recalled for a 2nd stage mammogram if very worrying. Crawley Hospital did nothing to help with this worry. I arrived at 11.50am for a 12pm appointment. I am realistic. I know things tend to run a bit late, but the service I received was unbelievable bad. One of the nurses, who kept coming out to say that they were running behind, proceeded to discuss what would be happening to me in front of everyone in the waiting room. I finally had my mammogram at 1pm, followed by an ultrasound at 1.30pm. I was told that I would be called for the biopsy at 2pm. At 2.30pm, I was called into a room, where I was told that they would have to reschedule the biopsy for another day (in one weeks time). At this point I walked out in tears. This was the most distressing visit I have ever had - even worse than when I was told I had cancer. No one seemed in charge or even cared that I was getting upset. I am now waiting to see when they will schedule my biopsy.

We are sorry to hear you are unhappy about the care you received.

However, Sussex Community NHS Trust does not run the service at Crawley Hospital you attended. My guess is that the service is provided by Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, who work from East Surrey Hospital as well as from Crawley Hospital.

Please contact them via their website or by calling them on 01737 768 511.

I’m sorry to read that you are unhappy about the service you received. And I’m sorry to add as well that the service you were using is not provided by Sussex Community NHS Trust. A number of NHS organisations provide care at Crawley Hospital and it sounds like in this case that your care was provided by a Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH). You might want to contact the advice & liaison team at SASH on: Telephone: 01737 231958 / 01293 600399 Email: pals@sash.nhs.uk Write to: PALS at East Surrey Hospital, Canada Avenue, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 5RH.
