"Not enough information"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

My father is currently in Ward 10 of your hospital & we are finding it extremely difficult to visit him as none of us drive & we are approx 35 miles away . We have to rely heavily on information given to us over the phone when we ring up - unfortunately I feel very let down as most of the time they only tell me information I already know , even though the Doctors assured me that we would be kept fully up to date on dads progress ! The best example was me hearing about the Norovirus flaring up at your hospital & on ringing up finding out that my dad had indeed contracted it & had been extremely poorly - if I hadnt rang up i would never have known . When families are finding it difficult to visit loved ones in hospital as we are please understand its hard enough not seeing that loved one but to withold information from us can only be more distressing ! As my fathers oldest child & his next of kin my brother & sister rely heavily on me , so please ensure we are not left in the dark

Please accept our sincere apologies to you and your family for the level of communication we provided. Following your comments, we will make every effort to ensure that we appropriately communicate with patients’ families, especially those who cannot visit on a regular basis as they live some miles away. Ward Matron, Alison Stapleton is fully aware of your feedback and would be very happy to discuss your concerns. If you would like to talk to her, please call Alison on 07908 147755. Kind regards, Communications Team
