About: Castle Hill Hospital

Anything else?

My wife consulted her GP on 28/10/13 and he said he would refer her to Castle Hill to see a consultant as she had been been suffering from severe diarrheoa on a daily basis for two weeks since returning from a holiday in Lanzorate. It is now almost two months since we returned from holiday and my wife has lost approx 1 stone in weight and she still has not been seen by a consultant. After she had not received an appointment within two weeks my wife contacted her own GP's surgery at least three times per week to see when she would be getting an appointment. My wife was finally contacted by phone from the endoscopy dept at Castle Hill on Thursday 21/11/13 at approx 5.15 pm and offered an appointmen for 2.15 pm the following day at the Endoscopy dept. She contacted the Endoscopy dept on Friday 22/11/13 to ask if she needed to fast before the endoscopy and was told that she was not having an endoscopy but was seeing the consultant instead. We arrived at the endoscopy dept at approx 1.45 pm on Friday 22/11/13 and was then informed that the appointment was at the outpatients dept. We went to the outpatients dept and was informed that she was indeed listed for an endoscopy and to return to the endoscopy dept which we did. We returned and the receptionist asked my wife to fill in a questionaire before the endoscopy. After approx 2 hours we were then informed that the consultant was called away to HRI on an emergency and we could either wait for his return which would probably be several hours or they would contact my wife on Monday 25/11/13 and offer her another appointment. She was also informed that she would not be having an endoscopy but a colonoscopy. When the hospital had not phoned by 3.30 pm on Monday 25/11/13 we contacted the endoscopy dept only to be was again informed that there was a long waiting list and that she would have to wait for an appointment. This was the standard answer we have been getting ever since she was referred to Castle Hill for an appointment. This is an absolute disgraceful way to treat patients. I suspect if we were health tourists from another country or were willing to pay we would be seen immediately.
