About: Broomfield Hospital

Anything else?

I wanted to thank all the wonderful staff that have treated me over the last two weeks. On two occasions I thought my waters had broken and attended the DAU to be checked out, nothing was too much trouble for the overstretched staff. Finally my waters were confirmed to have broken and was kept in as I had Group B Strep and required antibiotic IV drip. Unfortunately the Labour Ward was full but I had been told that a bed had been reserved for 0030 for me as I may have required oxytocin drip. By 2330 hours my contractions were starting to get a stronger, at around midnight I was informed that the staff were trying to allocate the room reserved for me. As promised by 0030 I made my way to the Labour Ward where we were introduced to the midwife. I was made to feel instantly at ease by them and she explained any questions we had. I personally feel that my delivery went so well due to the expertise and friendliness of the midwife. I can honestly say that this is a lady I won't forget in a hurry. Two weeks before birth I was informed that I had Group B Strep and would have to stay in for 48 hours so that the baby could be monitored. Unfortunately there were no beds available on the post natal Ward so was kept in the delivery room for 7 hours, then moved to another room for another 7 hours. This room was also a delivery room but didn't have a proper bed to sleep, the air conditioning couldn't be altered and was just too cold. I was told that my baby's temperature was too low but no surprise as I was freezing myself. The midwife had to put my baby under a panda warmer to raise the temperature so that they could discharge us. I was surprised to be discharged so soon as I was initially informed to expect to stay in 48 hours. I'm guessing there still wasn't any available beds on the Post Natal Ward. Apart from the bed issue I couldn't praise the hospital and staff enough for their help. I would certainly recommend this hospital to others.

Thank you for the feedback. I have forwarded to the Maternity team so they can share and rectify why the air conditioning was not functioning properly. Many thanks
