"Dignity"

About: Leighton Hospital

Anything else?

I was recently a patient on Ward 12 for a pre planned procedure. Overall I was treated well and am happy with my treatment. I was however rather annoyed at a member of the ward staff. After I had returned back to the ward i asked if i could get out of bed to use the bathroom. A staff nurse asked a healthcare assistant to help me which seemed to constitute her standing looking at me. I struggled to get out of bed being aware i was in a gown so therefore exposed but the healthcare assistant didnt deem it necessary to pull the curtains around until i had my dressing gown on. I am an ex healthcare at leighton and i was always taught that privacy and dignity was paramount for all patients and having to try and negotiate my way out of bed without exposing myself to a watching room is not in my book acceptable.

Many thanks for taking the time to enter your posting on the NHS choices website. Whilst it was pleasing to read that you were generally satisfied with your treatment, I was disappointed that one member of staff did not provide the standard of care expected. We always strive to ensure staff are professional and caring when dealing with patients, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained at all times. Please accept our sincere apologies. We would be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns further if you should wish to do so. Helen Williamson, Ward Manager ward 12
