I was admitted as an emergency case with renal failure owing to my only kidney getting blocked by a stone. I arrived in the assessment area at around 9am and was seen by a team of doctors who had a great deal of skill and who found the root cause of the problem. By 8pm they had performed a nephrostomy on me. This is where a pipe is inserted into the kidney to drain the fluid. I won’t say the procedure was totally pain free but it was almost the case. By 1am I was on the ward settled down for a good night’s sleep. I am now at home recovering prior to a stone removal procedure in a few weeks’ time. The care I received was excellent as were my surroundings which allowed me to settle into the daily routine with ease. As a bonus the food was very good with a wide range of choices to suite must people I suspect. I was seen by a consultant every day including Saturday and Sunday who kept me informed of what was happening and explained things in a easy to understand manner without being condescending. I would rate this hospital as one of the best I have encountered to date.
