About: Royal Derby Hospital

Anything else?

I was admitted as an emergency case with renal failure owing to my only kidney getting blocked by a stone. I arrived in the assessment area at around 9am and was seen by a team of doctors who had a great deal of skill and who found the root cause of the problem. By 8pm they had performed a nephrostomy on me. This is where a pipe is inserted into the kidney to drain the fluid. I won’t say the procedure was totally pain free but it was almost the case. By 1am I was on the ward settled down for a good night’s sleep. I am now at home recovering prior to a stone removal procedure in a few weeks’ time. The care I received was excellent as were my surroundings which allowed me to settle into the daily routine with ease. As a bonus the food was very good with a wide range of choices to suite must people I suspect. I was seen by a consultant every day including Saturday and Sunday who kept me informed of what was happening and explained things in a easy to understand manner without being condescending. I would rate this hospital as one of the best I have encountered to date.

Many thanks for your kind comments regarding your recent stay here at the Royal Derby Hospital. The staff work very hard to ensure that all patients receive a high standard of care and I was very pleased to hear that you felt this was the case on this occasion. I will certainly ensure that this important feedback is shared with all the appropriate staff as I am sure they will also be very appreciative.
