"Beyond the call of duty"

About: Colchester General Hospital

Anything else?

I don't live in the local area, but most of my family are based in Holland on sea.The last three weeks,we have attended Colchester hospital for various reasons, but most of the time it was because two of my daughters were expecting children, only 5 days apart. The care and consideration that they both received up too the births, was first class.I know from reading the national newspapers, that this hospital has come in for some serious stick the past few weeks, but I am talking about the everyday staff, nurses, doctors etc who have been superb. One of my new granddaughters had a slight cold, and being only two weeks old,my daughters motherly instincts kicked in and she took her to Colchester hospital ,just for peace of mind. When see arrived she saw that the baby was grey in colour, sunk pupils, and shallow breathing, and did what anybody else would do,panic!! She left her car on the grass, unlocked, and ran towards the A&E in complete panic as baby had stopped breathing. Can your imagine how she felt as she shouting at her baby"don't leave me" The next 10 minutes was a complete blur,as if out of nowhere, came a nurse and scooped up my granddaughter and rushed her inside with my daughter hyperventalating and in a complete haze as to what was happening .She remembers a doctor bringing her tea, calming her down and reassuring her that baby was breathing and being treated. After a short while they both made there way to the children's ward, where oxygen and antibiotics where given to my granddaughter.Thank god,she is now well on the way to recovery, all this over a Virus, but being so young she hadn't got anything inside of her to fight it.The staff have been very informative, very caring, and yes,I know they are only doing there job,but a massive, massive thanks from me and my family to all of you.I don't know if I can name people on here, but the nurse who scooped up my little one,Brightlinsea ward, and to her a special thanks from a very grateful grandad.Bless you----ps.and she got a parking ticket!!!!!!!
