"Amazing surgeon and excellent ..."

What I liked

Amazing surgeon and excellent job done!Staff are generally compassionate and caring apart from one in my case who gave me no eye contact, no smile and ordered me out of bed as if speaking to a naughty child 12 hours after my operation. I was on morphine, in a lot of pain and had had abdominal surgery. She neither instructed as to how to get out of bed or offered me any assistance. Obviously, in absolute distress, I eventually told her in no uncertain terms to go away and leave me alone which did not go down very well leaving a atmosphere of 'we got a right one here' amongst staff that was easily detectable by myself and other patients.

Other staff on duty at other times could not be faulted for their compassion and friendliness.

What could be improved

Pain relief needs to be of paramount importance and needs to be offered immediately rather than the patient having to repeatedly complain and end up demanding relief as in my case.

The NHS is so understaffed that many patients including myself are not regularly checked on nor asked if they are ok. Elderly and very sick patients receive constant care and checking on which is as it should be but other post-operative patients are severely neglected. Buzzers are sometimes out of reach and many people including myself feel unsure of buzzing unless it is an absolute emergency.

A very painful, uncomfortable and traumatic stay for me. Private medical insurance is now a must.

The fault lies directly with the government and the NHS. More nurses are urgently required in order to cope with the demands placed on them by mounting numbers of patients.
