"Disabled parking charges"

About: Stratford Hospital

Anything else?

My husband is a disabled person who is a Blue Badge Holder. He has to visit Stratford Hospital for blood tests and to pick up his Methotrexate sub-cutaneous injection every 6 weeks. On our last visit, we were told that disabled persons now have to pay to park? I am told that the first 15 mkinutes are free, but it is not always easy to find someone to deal with his medication within 15 minutes, so we can be there for much longer than that.Could you please verify this information for me, and explain to me why this has come into force. We are in receipt of benefit, have a very limited budget, and simply cannot afford to pay parking charges. It has been my understanding that Blue Badge Holders are exempt from parking charges, so would like to know why Stratford Hospital have decided to implement charges. My husband has been a patient of the Occupational Therapy services at the hospital, and also Rheumatology. The hospital itself is very clean, very easy to navigate, and the staff are very pleasant and easy to deal with.

Thank you for the kind comments about Stratford Hospital. In regards to the car parking changes these have been altered as per the national travel cost scheme, which states that the only exemption to car parking charges is for patients who are on means tested benefits. This is in line with other public sites and the same charges for all patients will now apply. To help accommodate short visits we have increased the free parking time to 30 minutes. If blue badge holders are on means tested benefits forms can be collected from the main reception desk at Stratford, which will enable them to claim these costs back.
