I went into labour in late October 2012, went to hospital about 10 pm at night as pains were getting sore and it was my 5th child so I didn't want to leave it too late to go to hospital. I was examined and was only 2cm so we waited a bit in hospital. Then around 1 am I was told I'd be better off at home as wasn't much they could do for me as I wasn't dilated enough. So I went home in agony and tried to sleep. Next thing I know its 7 am on a Sunday I'll never forget.
Was still in agony, couldn't sleep for the pains, couldn't sit or stand. I really just wanted to die the pain was that bad but still I struggled on. Around 4. 30 pm, I asked my husband to phone the labour ward again to see if I could go up and was told just to take paracetamol again. I was very upset at this point like no one cared about me or my baby's welfare. I tried one last shower and as I was in toilet I heard a horrible cry. One of my kids had fallen and hurt themself. My son had split his head open and blood was everywhere. I screamed and I was in that much pain that I felt helpless. I couldn't help my poor wee man so my husband phoned an ambulance for my son straightaway. They went off leaving me and my 3 daughters in the house.
By this point I was in the toilet every 5 minutes peeing but nothing was happening. I knew it wasn't right so I had another shower to ease pains then the next thing I knew I had to push. I screamed for my oldest daughter who was 10 at the time for help. She was so composed and never showed an ounce of fear. I asked her to phone 999 and ask for help. The rest was a blur. I was pushing and screaming for help my and my poor daughter was on the phone to the ambulance service operator.
Next thing I know these two heroes in green just came in took over and made everything right again. I will forever be in debt to them both Andy and Ross from Cupar Ambulance Station, Fife. They are true heroes who deserve recognition for all the hard work they do.
