"all staff were extremely friendly, helpful and..."

About: Wrightington Hospital

Anything else?

I have just had a knee replacement and found all the staff at the hospital from the cleaners to the doctors were very friendly and helpful. The treatment I received was 1st class and found that the staff were extremely busy but never too busy to answer any questions no matter how silly the question may seem. The food at this hospital was extremely good especially when you think how many people they had to cater for. The only problem with my stay in the hospital was how noisy the ward was at night, as it was an old fashioned ward with 24 beds in the main ward there was always a lot of noise during the night and this is the only thing that I can think that they could improve but how they could do this I do not know.

Response from Susan Heighway, Patient Relations / PALS Manager , Patient Relations / PALS, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your comments, I have shared these with the Head of Nursing for Specialist Services who has asked me to respond as follows:

It is always nice to receive positive comments about the care we provide at Wrightington Hospital. We have a committed and professional team of staff who always strive to provide the best care for all patients. I will ensure that these kind comments are passed on to all members of the team.

With regard to noise at night, you are right to highlight that the style and layout of the ward is not conducive to providing a restful night’s sleep. The Night Sister on the Ward has introduced a number of things, including soft closing bin lids, a time for lights out and TV off, and ear plugs for patients. These will have a limited impact on noise at night, and so in the plans for re-building the two in-patient wards at Wrightington in 2015 we have included single rooms and smaller bays with only 4 beds.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and I wish you well in your recovery.
