"Amazing care, concern and skill from vascular team"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

Anything else?

I came in at the end of October 2013 for a repair to my aorta. The anesthetist, surgeon, nurses were superb. Everything explained carefully. Nursing of an ultra high standard.....and cheerful.Surgeon, highly skilled and definite. High dependency care was perfect,if not better. My only complaint was with the pre -assessment clinic. Insufficient detail and follow up given which almost prevented the procedure being done. The ward was ultra clean and the food well cooked ,with a good choice, and served well. All this given in a most cheerful and positive manner. 5 cheers for the NHS

Response from St Peter's Hospital

Dear Stephen, thank you for all of your positive comments about our vascular team, which we have passed on. We are pleased to hear you felt so well looked after by our surgeons and nurses and that you were impressed with the ward environment and the food. You will be interested to hear that our pre-assessment team are currently working to improve the clinic and their services following patient feedback such as yours. Specifically, they are booking patients into the clinic at an earlier time before their operation, so any medical issues can be identified sooner through the assessment and initial information about the procedure can be given. Certainly for more complex procedures, this gives patient a better opportunity to go home, read and digest everything and then call up with any further questions or concerns. We are also looking to introduce a telephone triage call a week prior to the surgery taking place, where a nurse can check all is well with the patient before they come into hospital. We hope these initiatives will help to improve the pre-assessment experience for our patients. Many thanks again for your comments.
