The whole pregnancy has brought troubles and endless scans and check ups which was very stressful for my partner and I. I have an ectopic heartbeat which became worryingly prominent during my third trimester and after expressing my concerns and breaking down and confiding that I had tremendous worries about a lot of different things including that I was 6 days overdue and there was very little fluid left around the baby, I was refused a C-section by three consultants and told by one that "Everyone has ectopic heartbeats, I have them, the midwife next to me has them..." I found this highly unlikely and felt very patronised and helpless. I was induced after waiting 6 hours on a ward as they had forgotten I was there, then monitored through the night by a young student midwife who ignored me when I said my waters had broken and told me to silence my heart monitor when my heart or the babys heartbeat went too fast or too slow?! Finally after 7 hours of this a Doctor came to see me and confirmed my waters had broken and I was sent to delivery suite and put on a hormone drip which was not explained to me. I had to have an epidural by dinnertime as the pain was excruciating. My heartbeat went upto 172bpm at times and the babys heart dipped dangerously low and despite even the midwives taking care of me expressing their concern the Doctor merely ignored them and told them to up the hormone drip to 72. By teatime I was not responding to anything or anyone and hadn't progressed any further in labour. I gave up trying to ask what was going on and felt my baby moving less and less. The consultants came in finally after 24 hours of painful, stressful and frightening labour to admit actually my baby was in a posterior position and was not progressing and an emergency C- section was indeed needed. I was taken to theatre after nothing really being explained to me or my partner and learned that after the C-section I also lost lots of blood leaving me needing a blood transfusion. I was disgusted at the consultants decisions, their arrogance and ignorance nearly cost my baby's life and mine. I have found myself feeling very down and traumatised on reflection of the whole situation and would never, ever go back to have any children at Lancaster Infirmary. Disgusting.
