Our son had an extreme bout of gastroenteritis and doctors were worried about his weight loss and hydration. We were sent to A&E on referral from our GP. We were seen quickly, a very detailed history taken (by a student doctor, who was very thorough), and we received great treatment. The staff on the children's ward were really great and helped make a very stressful situation much better. The specialist paeds A&E is a great facility as dealing with young children is difficult. The facilities (dedicated rooms, toys) and doctors and nurses made everything much easier. The whole facility is very modern and kept very clean compared to other hospitals I have visited. All staff seemed to be observing good hand hygiene, especially on the ward when it was important not to spread the gastroenteritis. Two small complaints. Firstly, our GP surgery is recorded wrong on the hospital's computer system and it seems that no single person can change this and it reverts to the wrong data. Secondly, toilets seem to get blocked a lot in the hospital and it often takes a few hours for them to be sorted.
