"First ever operation"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

Anything else?

I had to have a hernia repaired, my first ever operation. My GP referred me to the Royal Surrey in early September and a few weeks later I saw a consultant who advised the waiting time to be about 2 months. In early November I contacted the consultant's secretary to find out if there was any visibility of my appointment. The Secretary was wonderfully helpful and via her efforts I was given an appointment for a pre op assessment on Wednesday. That afternoon, having completed the assessment, appointments rang me and asked If I could go in on the Friday morning for the surgery. Pretty impressive. I arrived at the appointed hour and was shown to a bed where I did have a longish wait. Eventually I was seen by the medical staff and the delay was explained to me. I was apprehensive about the procedure but the staff was reassuring and friendly. Following the operation, I received very kind and caring help to ensure I was fit to leave that evening. Having an operation is not a pleasant experience, but the staff at Royal Surrey made it as tolerable and stress free as it could have been. My thanks to them all; Consultants, Office staff, Surgeons, nurses and porters. They were all wonderful - well done.
