"Respiratory ward"

About: Hammersmith Hospital

Anything else?

I recently had quite a long stay in Christopher Booth ward while various things were done to try to achieve some control of my asthma. As someone how hates hospitals with a passion, I was dreading it, and so was extremely impressed with the fantastic care I received. The nursing staff on the ward are second to none - both professional and friendly, and however busy they were, they always had time when I needed them. Their attentiveness and close observation of the patients also meant that when I was taken ill on a couple of occasions they were able to advise the doctors that while I might not have fitted the standard criteria for a severe asthma attack, they had seen the decline and knew I was in a bad way. The resp team doctors are also fantastic, again always having time to listen to my concerns. Unfortunately a couple of the on call doctors let the rest down during my stay, with one not coming at all after being called when I was suffering an attack during the night, and a second being extremely rude, repeatedly calling me 'madam' when I asked him not to, and insisting I was 'fine' even though my peak flow was at 40%! In both situations the exceptional nursing care prevented me coming to serious longterm harm, but its a pity they had to.
